Sea Kale
Crambe maritima
This delightful perennial from the Brassicace family is native to coastal regions of the uk and parts of Europe. In early spring the silvery leaves begin to emerge from the extremely hardy and drought tolerant, fleshy tap root. Young leaves are very pretty and have a nutty kale-like flavour when eaten lightly cooked. Sea Kale can also be forced to reduces the bitterness, producing an unusual and delicious spring vegetable. Abundant sprays or small white flowers are borne in summer, these have a lovely scent and can be used as a garnish for salads.
Price is for one plant in a 9cm diameter pot. Available again March - April
