Josta berry

£8.00
Sold Out

Ribes x nidigrolaria

Jostaberry is a complex cross between three original species. The ‘blackcurrant’ Ribes nigrum, the North American ‘coastal black gooseberry’ Ribes divaricatum, and the ‘European gooseberry’ Ribes uva-crispa. The flavour is a curious mix of gooseberry and blackcurrant. The berries are smaller than gooseberries but larger than a blackcurrant. The bushes exhibit ‘hybrid vigor’ and quickly grow taller than a blackcurrant bush. They can be pruned as a coppice bush (in the same way as a blackcurrant). Alternatively they can be grown on a stem to make picking easier.

Price is for one 30-40cm tall bare root bush. Roots will be wrapped in compostable corn starch bag for transport.

We are working to reduce horticultural plastic by growing more plants in deep beds and supplying them bare rooted.
