Fieldfare Syntropic Orchard
We began planting our experimental Syntropic Orchard in 2023. Our aim is to creating a vibrant and abundant ecosystem that produces an exciting range organic products. From fruits, fungi and berries to herbs, natural dyes and baskets. Once established the Orchard will be open to the public and the local community will be able to harvest all kinds of produce.
Our online nursery shop showcases our range of perennial edible and useful plants. Order and pay through the shop and select your preferred local collection point.
Current options are M32 Market 22nd Feb or Bristol Seed Swap 23rd Feb.
Why is it called Fieldfare Orchard?
The word Fieldfare derives from the Old English ‘feldefare’ that’s thought to have meant ‘traveller through the fields’, a nice connection to our site at Three Hares Organics which is on the major long distance footpath - the Monach’s Way. This also connects with the idea of welcoming community back to the land to gather.
Also we are starting with an open ‘field’ and aiming to grow a diversity of ‘fare’ or produce. So it seemed a fitting creature to represent a new kind of orchard producing a diverse range of products.
The bird is a migrant visitor to the UK from northern Europe, it frequents orchards and eats insects, worms, windfall fruit and berries. The fact that the bird eats fruit is a reminder that we can share the bounty with nature.
